Why does my browser time zone differ from my IP location?

Where each value comes from
Your browser time zone comes from your operating system clock settings. Your IP time zone is estimated from the geolocation of your network address. They are independent sources, so they can disagree.
Common innocent causes
Using a VPN or proxy in another region; travelling without changing system settings; mobile carriers that route traffic through a gateway in another city or country; corporate networks that exit through headquarters; and geolocation database errors.
Why sites look at it
A mismatch is a weak signal that the visible IP may not reflect the user's physical location, so anti-fraud systems sometimes weigh it. On its own it proves nothing, which is why this site describes it neutrally as a mismatch or potential inconsistency.
